You are not simply working for another person. What you
are really doing is selling a product ? your services.
If your services are not meeting the needs of your customer
(your employer), then why should you continue to be paid

10 Tips to Increase Your Sales

Business is about selling. Every business has something to sell so it
makes perfect sense to use every tool at your disposal to increase your sales.
1. Make a good impression
You only get one chance to make a first impression so do everything
that you can to make yourself memorable in a positive way. Prepare
yourself physically and mentally and your confidence will soar.
2. Believe in your product/service
If you don't believe that your products/services are the best, you
can't convince anyone else. Sincerity sells.
3. Know your product/service
Be thoroughly prepared to answer any questions that a customer might
have about your products/services. You'll shake your customer's
confidence if you are unsure of the answers about your line.
4. Know your field
A customer may have general questions about your industry so be sure
you are prepared with answers. Be familiar with your competitors
products, too. You might be asked to compare and you want to show how
your product is superior.
5. Know your customers
Who are they? What are their needs? You'll be able to reach your
target market better if you can define them clearly. If you don't know
how to reach your customers, then take some time to define your market more precisely.
6. Don't sell, teach
Teach customers on how and why your product/service will benefit
them. People aren't interested in good products, they are interested in
how the products (or services) will help them achieve something they
desire or solve a problem that they have. Show them how you can help.
7. Prepare your presentation
Good marketing materials forces you to organize your thoughts about
your products/services. Any materials you develop should be clear,
easy to read, and should stress the benefits of your products/services to the customer.
8. Make an appointment
When they know you are coming, then you will have the time to get your
presentation done. When you interrupt them, they will find all kinds of
excuses not to listen to you.
9. Stay in touch with customers
Follow up on your sales. Ask how they like your product/service. If
you keep your products fresh in their minds, you will increase your
chance of repeat sales. Don't miss this opportunity.
10. Keep good records
Know when you contacted a customer, when they bought, what they
bought, etc. Keep everything up-to-date and accessible. The effort
will pay off for you.

Q: I use a free e-mail service address but people tell me I won't be
taken seriously with my business that way. What's the deal?
A. Although there is nothing intrinsically wrong with a free e-mail
account, they have now gotten a reputation for being used by people to
send "spam" (unsolicited e-mail). Therefore, folks have begun to hold
any user suspect of doubtful business practices.
If you plan to have an online business, you should use your primary
e-mail address from your ISP - the same way you would use your true
office address - or telephone number - in the outside business world.
Would you give out the number of the pay phone on the corner if you
were doing business on "the outside?" Using a free e-mail account for
business purposes gives people the idea that you are trying to hide.
Not good for a professional.
If/when you get your own web site domain name for your business, you
would then use your domain e-mail address.
I hope this has helped your understanding. It's a simple matter of
being straightforward and letting people know who - and where - you are.
Q. I have a free web host. I want to join the International Association
for Professionals Online but I was afraid you would think that not
having my own domain name is not professional. Where do you stand on this?
A. It's true that some people might see it as unprofessional to have
a
free web host and no domain name. I don't happen to be one of them. It
isn't a matter of what you "have" - it's a matter of what you GIVE that
makes you a true pro. Giving your customers top priority is the bottom
line in your level of professionalism.
How professional your site looks is dependent on the content - not the
URL. Many folks try to keep costs down when starting out with an
online company and that's just good business. I don't think they should
be penalized for that. In fact, this is the perfect time to announce
your online professionalism - right in the beginning!
It's also a known fact that paying for a web host is no guarantee that
you'll even be able to keep your site up. Who needs that? If I could
spend all the time on business that I waste dealing with the nonsense of
a "professional" web host, my clients and colleagues would receive much
better service from my own businesses.
