Honesty on the Internet

All to often we hear about or are even affected by some
type of dishonesty. There are many people in the world
and online that have no scruples, no conscience, no
consideration or respect for others and their hard work.
I have been operating a business on the Internet for just
about 2 years now and it still completely knocks my socks
off when I find people that fit into the above category.
I have been affected by this type of thing on a few rare
occasions when someone has either inadvertently used
images that I created or deliberately taken material
that has my copyright on it.
I recently heard of a horrible instance of a well-known
and seasoned Internet Marketer taking a Newbies article
and publishing it as his own. What does this say about
this individual? In my own opinion, it makes him suspect
of having not achieved his success on his own & makes me
wonder if all of his other articles are his own?? ---
Doesn't he remember how hard it was to make a name for himself??
Now, the real writer of the article does not have much of
a recourse because she is not well-known and it was her
first attempt at publishing an article. (Yes, she did get
it published once before it was used by the other writer.)
She does not have a name and reputation that would help
her to receive a lot of backing in going after the other
writer, ---- isn't this a shame?
In a completely different incident which took place a
few months ago Jim Daniels, author of Insider Internet
Marketing had someone steal his sales letter and the name
of his book. The person then used Jim's sales letter in
a massive spam campaign. Of course Jim took legal action
when the spamming thief was caught. (Read more about this

There seems to be a rash of this type of behavior lately.
People see a good logo, website copy, newsletter ad, image,
signature, sales copy, title or any other type of marketing
material with copyright protection & automatically think:
"Hey, that is good."
"Bet I could sell more if I used that in my ad copy or
signature file."
"Hey, I really like that image or background."
"Who will know if I take it or use it?"
Don't ever ever think this way! You WILL get caught and
you really don't want someone to take legal action against
you. Remember that most material on websites and in e-zines
and newsletters are copyright protected. By using anything
from something with a copyright can cause you major financial
and legal trouble, not to mention the irreparable damage
to your personal & business reputation.
What do you do if it happens to you?
Should anyone ever take something that you have a copyright
on you should first e-mail them asking them why and how.
Depending on the answer they give you depends on your actions.
Going by my own experience (I have had two such incidents)
should the person deny it all when you have proof that it
is yours, you can do one of two things initially:
1) Try to reason with them and make them realize how costly
a legal battle will be - including how it will affect
their reputation as a person and business.
2) Call your lawyer and have them served.
Be sure to save every e-mail they send you and every e-mail
you send them - your lawyer will want & need it all.
Should they admit it then they should be willing to rectify
it immediately. If not, call your lawyer & have them served.
Keep in mind that this does not have to be a war. Some
good can come out of it - You could gain a friend or an
alliance if the act was truly unintentional and you keep
your cool. You can build a friendship from this type of
problem. I did with one incident. I did not hold any
of it against the person because they truly did not
realize that they had taken an image that I had created
and had a copyright on.
Keep this in mind - it is always better to build a
relationship than to tear it down (in most instances).
Should you have trouble finding the culprit's home or business
address and phone number there are many ways to get this info
without hiring a Detective. The easiest and fastest way
that I know of is by using Net Detective 4.0.

The Amazing Dangers of Email Marketing

Yakho Smirenof immigranted to the United States and made a
career for himself as a comedian during the early 1980's. He
tells a story about the amazing opportunities afforded him in
his new country.
"I went to the grocery store the other day and saw a box of
powdered-milk. I'd never seen anything like it. You take the
powder, add a little water, and suddenly you've got milk. It's
amazing.
"I walked a little further and saw another box--this time is
was powdered orange juice. You just add some water to this
powder and suddenly you've got orange juice.
"I went a little in this grocery store and looked up on the
shelf and saw some 'baby powder,' and I thought to myself,
'Wow, what a country!'"
Sometimes when we enter the land of cyberspace we are
equally amazed at the incredible opportunities this technology
affords. For example, with the stroke of a few keys on a
key-board it is possible to send an email message to literally
millions of people around the world. "Wow, what great
technology?"
Yet while the Internet offers us amazing opportunities, there
are many dangers in this technology--especially for those
who misuse it. One example hit close to home for me this past
week. A company I represent had it's web pages pulled by
their host because an overly zealous distributor SPAMMED the
company site. SPAM is the practice of sending unsolicited
marketing email to mass numbers of people who have not
requested that information. SPAM does an incredible amount of
harm each day--and attaches a bad name to an otherwise amazing
technology. Here's how sending SPAM can harm you.
1) SENDING SPAM can ruin your reputation as a reputable
marketer. The mainstream of the Internet marketing community
rejects the use of SPAM and most refuse to do business of any
sort with a noted SPAMMER.
2) SENDING SPAM can cause you to lose your email account.
Just imagine the consequences to your business if your
potential clients couldn't contact you via email.
3) SENDING SPAM can shut down your website (or the site of a
business you represent) causing the loss of income both for
yourself and the thousands of others who represent the same
opportunity. If you are identified as the culprit, the company
harm will (at the very least) pull your distributorship--and
any commissions and/or income you may have earned. They may
even fine you for their loss of income.
Quite frankly, SENDING SPAM is just not worth the trouble. Any
benefits that might derive by getting your message delivered
to five million different email addresses can be quickly
diminished as you pay the price associated with such a stupid
business practice.
There are other alternatives in the realm of email marketing.
Try sending advertising message to "opt-in lists." The
Internet is filled with numerous "safe-lists." Global
-Safelists in one of the more reputable safe-list
opportunities. They also provide you will several potential
sources of revenue.

In addition to safe-lists, you ought to advertise in
subscribers-based newsletters (like this one). There are
several different Ezines with incredibly responsive lists.
Several of these newsletter even offer "solo ads," permitting
you to send a rather lengthy advertisement to their entire

This would allow you to advertise in several different ezines
